The Lagos Business School (LBS) has received a N500 million commitment from Ese Gamaliel Onosode and Spencer Onosode, on behalf of the Onosode family, as demonstration of the family’s support to the LBS’ research activities.
The donation is expected to go towards building of the school’s International Management Research Centre (IMRC), which will house the school’s research centres.
In honour of the family’s generosity, the IMRC building will be named The Gamaliel Onosode Management Research Centre, notes a statement released by LBS.
While receiving the first instalment of N100 million on behalf of the school, Enase Okonedo, the Dean of Lagos Business School, expressed appreciation to the family for the generous donation.
“Lagos Business School is committed to promoting research contributions that will have significant impact on the knowledge and practice of management in Africa.
This donation will foster the school’s objective of conducting relevant research that impacts corporations and the society. Late Gamaliel Onosode was an exemplar in the practice of management; he embodied the values we promote here at the school and we are indeed grateful to his family for making this contribution in honour of their father,” said Okonedo.
Gamaliel ‘Ese Onosode, speaking on behalf of the Onosode family said “The N500 million donation for the Gamaliel Onosode Management Research Centre is to emphasise the love Gamaliel Onosode had for quality education especially as it impacts the very heart of management. Our late father demonstrated his zeal for education by setting up the Gamaliel and Susan Onosode Foundation with the principal aim of promoting quality education through flexible and innovative learning opportunities.”
Onosode further explained the reason for the donation to LBS, saying he was aware of the commitment of Lagos Business School to improve the quality of management in corporate Nigeria.
“With this initial donation of N100 million, we the family of Gamaliel Onosode are persuaded that erecting a management research centre in his honour will not only advance the quality of education of potential leaders, but also continue his life-long commitment to the advancement of excellence in our country and the world at large,” Onosode added.
LBS’ statement on the donation also stated that the Onosode’s gift comes at a time of great opportunity for Lagos Business School, as the institution celebrates 25 years of developing responsible leaders.
“Thanks to the generosity of past donors, the school has been able to make qualitative management education available. Tasked with making the next 25 years even more remarkable, LBS constantly seeks the support of individuals and organisations who believe in her vision,” the statement said.
