Adekunle Adeosun, the Chairman, Ogun State Internal Revenue Service (OGIRS) says the agency has generated N21billion between January and October.
Adeosun disclosed this while defending the 2017 budget proposal of the agency before the Ogun State House of Assembly Committee on Finance and Appropriation at the Assembly complex in Abeokuta.
The chairman said that the OGIRS had proposed to generate the sum of N41billion as revenue in the 2017 fiscal year.
He said that the sum of N326 million would be the expected revenue from road taxes and N2 billion from withholding taxes.
Adeosun said that N3 billion was expected from direct assessment/minimum tax, while N309 million and N276 million were expected from pool betting/casino licences and stamp duty respectively.
He explained that the agency had earmarked N2.4 billion as its recurrent expenditure, while the sum of N400 million would be expended on capital expenditure with the total expenditure standing at N2.8 billion.
“We have tax payers of about 300,000 which is not too correct that is why we want to make sure that our data base is up to date.
“The agency will continue to identify new tax payers and continue creation and maintenance of database of tax payers.
“The OGIRS will soon present its autonomy bill to the house of Assembly which will make us to be self independent and I want to call for its accelerated passage,’’ he said.
Responding, Olakunle Oluomo, the Deputy Speaker and member of the committee, advised the agency to work directly with trade associations in the state, adding that it would assist in boosting the Internally Generated Revenue of the state.
Oluomo stressed the need for more companies to be captured in the data base of the agency and ensure that they pay their taxes as at when due.
