The NSE Insurance Index continued to lead the market, spiking by 1.97 percent after trading on Tuesday. The rise in the Insurance index has lasted 5 days, soaring by 8 percent. The Oil and Gas Index also spiked by 1.26 percent.
The NSE All Share Index however fell by 1.07 percent.
As at the close of business on Tuesday, 14 stocks recorded gains in their prices, while 35 stocks recorded losses. Of the 14 gainers, four were from the insurance industry, two from the oil and gas sector and two from the banking sector.
Leading the gainers’ chart was Custodian and Allied Insurance, with a 8.75 percent or N0.35 surge, from N4 to close at N4.35. Following was Oando, with a 6.3 percent or N1.19 spike, to rise from N18.80 to N19.99. Learn Africa gained 5 percent or N0.07 to close at N1.47, up from N1.40. Mansard Insurance closed higher by 4.99 percent or N0.17, rising from N3.41 to close at N3.58. Rounding off the top five gainers was Wapic Insurance, gaining 4.62 percent or N0.03 to close at N0.68 up from N0.65.
Among the losers was Costain West Africa, which lost 9.43 percent or N0.10 to close at N0.96 down from N1.06. Diamond Bank also retreated by 5 percent or N0.30 to close at N5.70 down from N6. Nestle also saw a 4.99 percent or N41.9 dip from 840 to close the day’s trading at N798.10. Stanbic IBTC recorded a 4.98 percent or N1.53 loss to close at N29.21, lower than N30.74 the previous day. Dangote flour rounded the top five losers, loosing 4.98 percent or N0.31 to close at N29.21, down from N6.23.
First Bank of Nigeria Holdings shares was the most traded stock on the exchange, racking up 524 deals worth N175.2m. Other actively traded stocks were Sterling Bank with 388 deals, and Guarantee Trust bank with 315 deals. In all, 4398 deals were closed with a value of N4.4bn.
Market capitalisation closed at N11.076trn, 1.07 percent lower from N11.196 the previous day.
