Nottingham Forest boosted their Champions League qualification hopes with a 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur in Monday night’s Premier League clash.
Forest came into the game sixth in the table, looking to bounce back from consecutive defeats to Aston Villa and Everton.
Early goals from Elliot Anderson and top scorer Chris Wood put them in control, lifting them into third place with five matches remaining.
Forest weather late Spurs pressure
Despite Richarlison’s late header in the 87th minute, Forest held firm for a vital win. The victory tightened the race for the top five places, which will secure Champions League football next season.
Liverpool remain favourites for the title, with Arsenal close behind in second. However, just three points now separate Forest from seventh-placed Aston Villa, intensifying the battle for European spots.
Toffolo’s heroics and late drama
Forest defender Harry Toffolo made a crucial overhead clearance to deny Dejan Kulusevski just after the hour mark, while Richarlison’s eventual breakthrough gave Spurs late hope. However, Forest’s resolute defence ensured they claimed all three points.
Forest’s European dream comes alive
The win keeps Forest on track for a return to Europe’s top club competition for the first time since the 1980/81 season.
Spurs’ struggles continue
Tottenham suffered their 18th league defeat of the campaign and remain just two spots above the relegation zone.
However, Ange Postecoglou’s side still has a shot at silverware as they face Bodo/Glimt in the Europa League semi-finals—an alternate path to Champions League qualification.
