Hashimu Dungurawa, the chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano State, has rejected claims that he has been removed from office, describing reports of his ouster and alleged defection as unfounded and deliberately misleading.
Speaking to journalists in Kano on Tuesday, Dungurawa said he remains the duly recognised chairman of the party in the state, stressing that neither the NNPP’s state nor national leadership has taken any decision to remove him.

His comments come amid heightened speculation over internal disagreements and leadership struggles within the Kano chapter of the party.
Dungurawa disclosed that the NNPP’s national leader and former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, is currently holding consultations with key stakeholders across various levels of the party to reinforce unity and reposition the NNPP for future political contests.
According to him, the engagements, which are ongoing, are aimed at resolving internal concerns and strengthening cohesion within the party. He added that appreciable progress has been made so far and assured that party members and the public would be properly briefed at the conclusion of the process.
The NNPP chairman urged party supporters to remain calm and patient, insisting that internal mechanisms were being followed to address all outstanding issues.
Reacting to reports that he had been expelled by some individuals from his ward, Dungurawa dismissed the claim as invalid and lacking constitutional basis. He described the purported action as “inconsequential,” arguing that it carries no legal or political weight within the party.
He explained that the NNPP has established disciplinary procedures which cannot be bypassed by a few aggrieved members, adding that no ward has the authority to expel a state chairman without due process and ratification by the appropriate party organs.
Reaffirming his loyalty to the NNPP and the Kwankwasiyya movement, Dungurawa warned against what he described as attempts by external forces to destabilise the party in Kano through misinformation and internal discord.
