The National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) has begun the migration of all telecommunications operators in Nigeria to its newly developed National Identification Number authentication platform, known as NINAuth.
The move is part of efforts to enhance identity verification and strengthen the integrity of digital transactions across the telecom sector.
In a statement released on Wednesday in Abuja by Kayode Adegoke, Head of Corporate Communications at the Commission, the transition to the NINAuth platform represents a major milestone in Nigeria’s drive to improve the security, efficiency, and reliability of National Identification Number (NIN) verification within the telecommunications sector.

Developed and implemented by NIMC’s Information Technology and Identity Database Department, the NINAuth platform facilitates smooth and secure identity verification processes.
According to the statement, “this platform empowers Nigerians by giving NIN holders greater control over their personal data, while enabling telecom operators to provide uninterrupted verification services for SIM registration, SIM swap, migration, and SIM retrieval requests.
“The platform strengthens data protection, ensures seamless verification, and offers convenient single sign-on access to services,” said Engr. Lanre Yusuf, Director of IT/IDD at NIMC, confirming the successful completion of the migration of all telecom companies to the new system.

“With the rollout now finalised, NIMC advises members of the public encountering difficulties with new SIM registration, SIM swap, SIM migration, or SIM retrieval to reach out directly to their respective telecom service providers, as these responsibilities now rest with the operators.
“The Commission reassures the public that the verification and authentication platforms are fully operational and accessible to all,” the statement concluded.
