President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday assured Nigerians that there would soon be an end to the current economic doldrums confronting the country.
BusinessDay reports that the president gave the assurance in Benin-City during the grand finale rally of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship election at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium.
Buhari who said that the security challenges in the country is almost a thing of the past noted that his government would make the country great again.
“I assure you that we are going to go out of this Economic doldrum. We are almost out of insecurity problem and we are going to make Nigeria great again. We are going to be very proud of our country once again and our size, our resources will make us to live.
The president who also noted that Nigeria is a nation blessed with human and material resources, however charged the youths to remain steadfast and contributed to savaging it.
“We are a nation of greate human and material resources especillay the youths, please sit down and reflect over what I said 30 years ago that we don’t have no other nation like Nigeria, we must remain and savage it together”, he added.
He reminded youths to shun the habit of travelling out of the country with flimsy excuses of seeking for greener pastures abroad noting that no matter when they travel through the Mediterranean sea or in the Sahara desert and lucky to survive the rigour and got to the country of their destination they may be betrayed by the colour of their skins.
“No matter where you go through the Mediterranean sea or Sahara desert and if you are lucky you are not killed or drown, but when you get there the mere colour of your skill will be a problem for you and no matter how knowledgeable you are”, he ststed.
The president who congratulated Godwin Obaseki for emerging as APC candidate urged the people of the state to vote for him overwhelmingly in the next Saturday election in order to sustain and improve on Oshiomhole legacies.
He noted that Obaseki is a credible and season person that can succeed the outgoing governor.
He also paid glory tribute to the late Oba of Benin whom he described as a courageous, forthright and a man of integrity before his transition.
Earlier, Akinwunmi Ambode, Lagos State Governor who also doubled as chairman, Edo State Campaign urged Edo people to vote for continuity pointing out that the secret behind the success of Lagos was continuity.
He said the state had since 1999 voted for continuity in spite of behind in opposition at the national level.
In his remark, the APC governorship candidate for the election, Godwin Obasrki promised to sustain, build and improve on the achievements of the outgoing governor.
He promised to construct more roads, schools, hospitals, improved workers’ welfare, create over 200,000 jobs among others.
