The Nigeria Technology Awards (NiTA) has continued to strengthen its reputation as one of the country’s most transparent and merit-driven recognition platforms, reinforcing trust in Nigeria’s innovation ecosystem.
The 2022 edition, organised by Beta Media Group, drew over 420 qualified nominations from technology professionals, public institutions, startups, and multinational corporations across the country. These entries spanned 27 award categories, ranging from fintech innovation and cybersecurity to enterprise automation and public digital services.
“NiTA’s credibility comes from a strict, documented evaluation process designed to ensure that excellence, not visibility, determines success,” said Felix C. Nnuji, Event Director of the awards. “All entries undergo rigorous documentation checks, peer evaluation, and verified public voting — there is no sponsorship influence at any stage.”
The awards employ a three-tier evaluation system: internal screening, expert judging, and verified public voting. Assessment is guided by a five-point rubric emphasising innovation, execution, scalability, measurable impact, and alignment with Nigeria’s digital-economy goals.
A 12-member advisory board comprising academics, certified engineers, and senior technology executives conducts the expert review phase. Among them are Prof. Charles Uwadia, President and Chairman-in-Council of the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN); Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA); and Dr. Olubunmi Odedeyi, a senior lecturer in the Department of Computer Science at University of Lagos.
“NiTA’s review process is evidence-based and peer-verified,” noted Prof. Uwadia. “Nominees are evaluated on demonstrable results, not promotional claims.”
Competitiveness remains a defining feature of the awards. More than thirty nominations were evaluated through NiTA’s five-point rubric, yielding only six finalists and a single eventual winner — an acceptance rate of roughly three percent.
While earlier editions recognised multiple honourees in some categories, recent years have adopted a single-winner-per-category structure, further increasing the award’s exclusivity. Since inception, NiTA has celebrated over 1,000 corporate and individual achievements, including notable innovators such as Infinix Mobility, SystemSpecs, and Precious Adesina-Ola, reflecting the broad scope of Nigeria’s technology excellence.
