Court orders: INEC completes Adamawa polls Thursday, suspends certificates of return for Zamfara

Sequel to the discharge of the court injunction that stopped the governorship supplementary election in Adamawa state, the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC has rescheduled the exercise this Thursday.

Information available on an INEC official social media platform stated that, “following the discharge of the injunction which stopped the governorship supplementary election in Adamawa state in the case filed by the MRDD, INEC will now conduct the election on Thursday, 28th March 2019 from 8am to 2 pm in 29 Registration Areas (RAs), 44 Polling Units across 14 LGAs with a total number of 40, 988 registered voters”.

The Commission also disclosed that it has suspended the presentation of certificates of return to the Zamfara Governor- elect and State Houses of Assembly Members -elect scheduled for Wednesday following the judgement of the Court of Appeal Sokoto which set aside the an court order that compelled INEC to accept All Progressives Congress, APC candidates for Zamfara.

“INEC has been served with the judgment of the Court of Appeal Sokoto concerning the sponsoring of candidates by the APC in Zamfara and is studying same. Consequently, the presentation of Certificates of Return for the Zamfara Governorship and State House of Assembly scheduled for Wednesday 27th March 2019 has been suspended”.
