This week on Professor Johnbull, the popular television satire sponsored by Globacom, Nigerians will graphically learn the folly of stereotypes, fallacies and hasty character judgment as the sitcom is broadcast on Tuesday by 8.30 p.m. on NTA Network, NTA International on DSTV Channel 251 and NTA on StarTimes.

The episode is aptly entitled Stereotype. Globacom explained in a statement that,”Stereotype addresses yet another sore point in our society”. It noted that “the havoc name-calling, character judgment and hasty generalisation have caused in a society, especially a multi-cultural society like Nigeria, cannot be downplayed. People are often pigeonholed based on the unacceptable behaviour of a very few in the community and this coloured judgment has caused a lot of disaffection in the society and turned a once peaceful community to one plagued by acrimony and mistrust”.

The statement further added, “We are hopeful that after this episode, viewers will learn to judge individuals based on their unique character and not on uninformed sentiments based on ethnicity, cultural nuances and geographical locations as every society is peopled by the good, the bad and the ugly, and no one is bad because he or she comes from a particular place”.

It features the protagonist of the series, Professor Johnbull, acted by Kanayo O. Kanayo (KOK), Olaniyi (Yomi Fash-Lanso), Mai Doya (Funky Mallam), Jumoke (Bidemi Kosoko), Ufoma (Bimbo Akintola), Flash (Stephen Odimgbe), Etuk (Imeh Bishop), Samson (Ogus Baba) and Abadnego (Martins Nebo).

Viewers will be confronted by intriguing posers such as: are people necessarily bad because of their ethnic background, geographical location, place of birth or profession?  Should people be judged based on their personal character or is it fair to prejudge people before getting to know them?  What are the negative effects of stereotyping people?  How does Samson wriggle out of the name-calling and stigma associated with the perceived notoriety of  people from his Niger Delta origin?

Globacom assured viewers of an interesting time watching the programme, confirming that they will find KOK in his best elements in the new episode just as Ufoma unfurls her intellectual side.

The statement announced that repeat broadcasts of Professor Johnbull would be aired at 8.30 p.m.on Friday on the same channels.
