The AELEX Arbitration Practice Group is delighted to present another edition of its Arbitration Week, an enriching programme designed to spark meaningful dialogue and thought leadership on the evolving landscape of arbitration in emerging markets. Taking place on 2–3 October 2025, the event will bring together leading arbitrators, practitioners, and stakeholders to share insights and provide fresh perspectives on the trends and challenges shaping dispute resolution across Africa and other emerging economies.

The first day of Arbitration Week, scheduled for 2 October 2025, will be held virtually to enable broad participation from across jurisdictions. The session will address the arbitration of construction and infrastructure disputes in emerging markets, a subject of critical importance as large-scale projects continue to shape Africa’s economic future. Funke Adekoya, SAN, one of Nigeria’s most respected arbitrators, will deliver key insights on how these disputes are approached and resolved within a regional and international context. The discussion will be moderated by Emmanuel Okoronkwo, Senior Associate at AELEX, who will guide the exchange of ideas and ensure participants gain practical knowledge from the session.

On 3 October 2025, participants will gather in Lagos, Nigeria, for the Arbitration Brunch, a closed event for Senior In-House Counsel Only, with Dr Adesegun Akin-Olugbade OON (Former Executive Director and General Counsel, African Finance Corporation) as a speaker. Dr Akin-Olugbade will be discussing the topic “Emerging Trends in Dispute Resolution: Fundamental change of circumstances, third-party funding, government/investor protection measures, artificial intelligence in arbitration and litigation etc”. This session will examine the innovations redefining arbitration, including the use of technology in proceedings, the growing emphasis on diversity, and the need for efficiency in managing complex disputes. Dr. Akin-Olugbade will offer his perspectives shaped by over four decades of experience in international finance, investment, and arbitration. Our Lawrence Fubara Anga, SAN, Senior Partner will moderate the session, providing additional insight and fostering robust dialogue between participants and speaker.

The AELEX Arbitration Week is more than just a conversation, it is a platform for learning, reflection, and collaboration. By tackling pressing issues such as infrastructure-related disputes and exploring the innovations shaping arbitration, the programme reflects AELEX’s commitment to advancing dispute resolution and providing thought leadership in the legal industry.

We invite you to join us for these two days of engagement and insight, as we look towards shaping the future of arbitration in Africa and beyond.
