…asks journalists to stand by family, help out of grief
Abdulraheem Bayo Lawal, Oyo State’s acting governor has said that the Oyo State government would support the family of Ojo Peter, an online media journalist, who was killed by suspected armed robbers in Ibadan.
“Whatever support that can be offered would be looked into, and we will get back to the family,” the Acting Governor said when he paid a condolence visit to the family of the slain journalist in Ibadan.
Lawal, who visited the wife and children of the deceased journalist in Ibadan, expressed sadness over the unfortunate incident that claimed the publisher’s life.
The acting governor, who was accompanied by Dotun Oyelade, the Commissioner for Information, Abdulmojeed Mogbonjubola, Commissioner for Public Works and Transport and the leadership of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Oyo State Chapter, assured that the government would give its support to the family.
He equally rallied journalists in the state to stand by their late colleague’s family and help them to get out of the grief.
While addressing the family, the acting governor said, “At this juncture, I have to pray that the Lord will comfort and be with you. Ojo Peter was a professional, and he left us at his prime, though he had the prospect of becoming a better person in life.

“As a government, we know the efforts he put into his work when he was still alive, and we appreciate that. That is why we have a lot of his colleagues here to console the family.
“Whatever support that can be offered we will look into it and we will get back to the family. I also want to challenge all journalists here today to help this family to come out of grief quickly, and the way to do that is to stand by the family.”
Ojo Peter, a former reporter with Parrot Extra and Daily Monitor, was shot in the back during a daylight robbery along the Molete-Oke Ado axis of Ibadan.
The details of the deceased’s death, which were made known to the Oyo state chapter of the Nigeria Union of Journalists after about three weeks, were saddened by the untimely death of the said reporter.
Sola Oladapo, the Acting Chairman of the Union, in a statement earlier, said the “Union is saddened by the news of Ojo Peter’s recent killing in Ibadan by suspected armed robbers. The attack occurred along the Molete-Oke Ado axis of Ibadan, Oyo State, on August 18, 2025, around 2 p.m.
