UniJos inducts 150 medical laboratory scientists

The University of Jos has added a significant boost to Nigeria’s healthcare sector with the induction of 150 newly qualified Medical Laboratory Scientists into the Association of Medical Laboratory Scientists of Nigeria (AMLSN).

The induction ceremony, held on Tuesday in Jos under the auspices of the School of Medical Sciences, marks a major milestone in the professional journey of the graduates, who are now poised to play key roles in disease diagnosis, treatment, and the overall delivery of quality healthcare across the country.

Joash Amopitan while speaking on behalf of the Vice Chancellor, Tanks Ishaya, congratulated the inductees on their resilience and perseverance, describing the ceremony as the culmination of years of dedication and rigorous academic pursuit.

He highlighted the indispensable role of medical laboratory scientists in the healthcare system and urged the new professionals to uphold integrity, compassion, and commitment as ambassadors of the university.

Ishaya also underscored the responsibility of the Medical Laboratory Science Council of Nigeria (MLSCN) in ensuring that high professional standards are maintained across the field.

Delivering the induction lecture entitled “Pursuing Excellence and Integrity: A Necessary Requirement for a Successful Medical Career,” Godwin Imade encouraged the inductees to pursue purpose-driven careers anchored on integrity and humility.

He emphasised the importance of teachability, professional satisfaction, and strict adherence to quality control in laboratory practices.

Imade further advised against unnecessary professional rivalry, urging the graduates to embrace teamwork and uphold workplace ethics both locally and internationally.

Jeremiah’s Madaki, the Provost of the College of Health Sciences, noted that the University of Jos has continued to provide world-class training across various health disciplines, including medicine, nursing, and medical laboratory science, thereby equipping students to contribute meaningfully to Nigeria’s healthcare system and beyond.

Speaking on behalf of the inductees, Bukata Andrew expressed heartfelt appreciation to the university for the knowledge, mentorship, and enabling environment that shaped their academic journey. He assured that the newly inducted professionals would uphold the values and ethics instilled in them during their training.
