The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has revealed that troops of Operation Safe Haven rejected a bribe of ₦13.74 million offered by suspected terrorists during a military operation along the Jos-Sanga Road in Plateau State.
Markus Kangye, Director of Defence Media Operations, disclosed this during a press briefing in Abuja on Thursday, where he detailed the successes recorded by the military in various theatres of operation across the country between July 9 and 16, 2025.
According to Kangye, troops were responding to a distress call when they intercepted a vehicle riddled with bullet holes.
“Two suspects in the vehicle attempted to bribe the soldiers with the sum of ₦13,742,000 in exchange for their release.
“However, the troops turned down the offer, arrested the suspects, and recovered the cash along with weapons, ammunition, and the vehicle.
“On July 9, 2025, our gallant troops intercepted a vehicle with bullet holes along the Jos-Sanga Road. The suspects attempted to induce the troops with monetary gratification, which was rejected”, Kangye said.
The soldiers arrested two suspects, recovered the vehicle, weapons, ammunition, and the sum of ₦13.74 million,” Kangye stated.
He added that the suspects are currently under investigation, and all recovered items remain in military custody.

“In the same week, troops conducted a series of operations in Plateau and Kaduna States, responding to terrorist activities and carrying out offensive actions in Bassa, Barkin Ladi, South Wase, Riyom, and Jos East LGAs of Plateau, as well as Kaura and Sanga LGAs of Kaduna.
“During the operations, troops killed several terrorists, arrested 12 suspects, and rescued three kidnapped victims. Multiple weapons, ammunition, vehicles, motorcycles, and illicit drugs were also recovered.
Routine patrols further led to the arrest of seven suspected militias and criminals in Barkin Ladi and Jos South LGAs of Plateau State, and in Wamba and Sanga LGAs spanning Nasarawa and Kaduna States.
“Recovered items included additional weapons, ammunition, motorcycles, and illegal drugs”, DHQ reported.
Kangye praised their integrity for resisting bribery attempts, emphasizing that the Nigerian Armed Forces remain unwavering in their commitment to fighting terrorism and criminality while upholding high moral standards.
Kangye reiterated the Armed Forces’ resolve to maintain pressure on criminal networks.
