Tension engulfed Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State on Friday, June 20, 2025 as the administrator, Goodluck M. Iheamnacho, appointed by Ibok-Ette Ibas, the state’s Sole Administrator, purportedly resigned.
Sources within the council area said Iheamnacho’s purported resignation may not be voluntary, suggesting he was forced to sign the resignation letter currently making the rounds in the state.
They said that minutes before the said resignation, some men made their way into the council, manhandled him along with the secretary, and reportedly forced Iheamnacho to sign the resignation letter.
In the letter of resignation, addressed to the state’s Sole Administrator, Ibok-ette Ibas, a retired vice admiral, Iheamnacho purportedly expressed “sincere gratitude to the government of Rivers State and the good people of Ahoada East for finding me worthy to serve as Administrator of Ahoada East.”
He based his resignation on his “desire to return back to the private sector.”
Council sources further said the council administrator was dragged out of the council after signing the letter, with his whereabouts currently unknown, adding that the Police have taken over the council premises.
Another source suggests that the council administrator might be in a secured location, adding that he will address the press before the day is over.
As yet, no response or comments have been made by the Police authorities in the state or the state administration.
