The Association of the Spinal Cord Patients, Bauchi State Council, has appealed for the creation of Physiotherapy and Comprehensive Rehabilitation Centre in the State.
Ilya Ismail, who is the Chairman of the Association, made the appeal during the 2025 World Spinal Cord Day commemoration organised by the Bauchi State Yankari Express Corporation.
He said that the creation of the Physiotherapy Centre would definitely help patients to access affordable treatment.
The Chairman of the Association commended Yankari Express Corporation for always certifying vehicles before allowing them on the road. Ismail shared a personal story of a spinal cord injury victim who became injured after boarding a vehicle that was not certified by Yankari Express.

He narrated that the victim had initially waited for a Yankari vehicle but decided to board another vehicle due to impatience, resulting in an accident that led to his spinal cord injury.
Babaji Yunusa, General Manager of the Bauchi State Yankari Express Corporation, pledged to always ensure expertise in driving practices.
Yunusa emphasised the significance of the day, noting that spinal cord injuries often result from auto crashes caused by reckless driving, overspeeding, and overloading.
He assured that Yankari Express Corporation’s drivers are well-trained and would continue to exhibit a high level of professionalism while driving.

According to him, the corporation also conducts regular vehicle inspections to ensure that all buses are roadworthy before embarking on journeys.
He further explained that the corporation invites vehicle inspection officers (VIO) to inspect every vehicle carrying passengers daily before embarking on a journey.
“If a vehicle is deemed unfit, the driver must rectify the issues before it can be allowed to travel”, the GM said.
The General Manager of the Corporation said that the measure ensures that passengers’ safety is prioritised.
