Rose Chundung Ndong has emerged as the 33rd President of the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society, FNMGS, effective April 1, 2025.
She emerged following her victory at the recently concluded election during the Society’s Diamond Jubilee Annual International Conference & Exhibition, held from February 16–21, 2025, in Abuja, under the theme: “Transformation of the Mineral, Energy, Water, and Construction Sectors through Innovations.”
Ms. Ndong brings decades of expertise spanning geosciences, mining, and the energy sector. A statement signed by Matthew Oyedokun, the chairman Installation Committee, stated
“Before her election as President, she served in various executive capacities within the NMGS Council, most recently as Vice President, where she played a pivotal role in advancing the Society’s strategic objectives”.
The statement said her extensive experience and leadership will drive integrated, sustainable solutions for Nigeria’s extractive industries and natural resource management.
As Nigeria’s foremost professional body for mining and geosciences, NMGS remains committed to harnessing innovation to unlock the full potential of Nigeria’s natural resources, promoting sustainable practices across the mineral, energy, water, and infrastructure sectors and advocating for the rights and recognition of geoscientists and mining engineers in national development.
The FNMGS also reiterated its commitment to fostering cross-sector collaboration among industry, government, academia, and international partners.
Reaffirming her commitment to the Society’s mission, Ms. Ndong said, “Our focus will be on transformative innovations—leveraging science, technology, and policy frameworks to unlock the full potential of Nigeria’s mineral and energy sectors. Together, we will build a resilient ecosystem that benefits both professionals and the nation.”
