The House of Representatives on Thursday passed for second reading a constitutional amendment bill seeking to bar individuals above the age of 60 from contesting for the offices of President and Governor in Nigeria.
Sponsored by Rep. Ikeagwuonu Ugochinyere, the bill proposes amendments to the 1999 Constitution, specifically revising Sections 131 and 177 to set the maximum age for presidential and gubernatorial candidates at 60 years. Additionally, candidates must hold at least a Bachelor’s degree in their chosen field of study.
