Former President Muhammadu Buhari has congratulated President Bola Tinubu on reaching the mid-point of his first term in office, praising his reform efforts and urging Nigerians to support the administration as it navigates the country through economic and political challenges.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday and signed by Garba Shehu, his former spokesperson, Buhari described leadership as “a continuous journey” and called on citizens to show steadfast support for the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government.
“As the party and the government celebrate, the country should be reminded that leadership is a continuous journey,” Buhari said.
He noted that the reforms initiated by the Tinubu administration, such as efforts to curb inflation and poverty, require time and collective input to succeed.
“Reforms would achieve success gradually, not overnight,” the former president stated, warning that “necessary reforms and desired changes must not fall victim to nettlesome domestic politics.”
Buhari expressed concern over the impact of inflation and economic hardship on the most vulnerable in society and emphasized the need for shared responsibility in nation-building.
“The task of reducing poverty and inflation, which is immense, must not be left only for the government,” he said. “The private sector and all of us as citizens must join in all ways we can.”
He urged Nigerians to remain optimistic and not to overburden their expectations of the government.
“Our expectations from our governments should not get heavy,” Buhari concluded, before extending his best wishes to his successor.
“I am wishing President Tinubu heartfelt congratulations on his two years in office. May you keep leading with wisdom and care,” he said.
