The Coalition of Concerned Nigerian Citizens, organizers of the EndBadGovernance protest in Osun State, has suspended the ongoing Nationwide protest in the State due to security concerns related to the Osun Osogbo festival.

The coalition cited concerns for the safety of tourists attending the Osun Osogbo festival and the possibility of hoodlums to infiltrate and hijack the protest, which could lead to attacks on peaceful demonstrators.

As a result, they have decided to put the protest on hold, effective from Tuesday, August 6, 2024.

Addressing a press conference in Osogbo, Ajala Adetunji, coordinator of the Coalition, expressed disappointment in President Bola Tinubu’s recent speech, which failed to address their specific demands.

The Coalition urged citizens to remain resolute in advocating for their demands and continue voicing their concerns as they monitor Government’s response.

They also called on the Government to act promptly and decisively on the issues raised, and assured that the Coalition would remain vigilant and committed to ensuring their demands are met.

Earlier, the protesters had stormed the Osun State Government Secretariat, where Governor Ademola Adeleke, represented by deputy governor, Kola Adewusi, commended their peaceful behavior and urged dialogue and constructive engagement.

Governor Adeleke promised to table their demands to the Federal Government at the next National Economic Council meeting, assuring them that the Federal Government palliatives would be disbursed to residents once completed.
