The Oyo State Anti-Corruption Agency (OYACA), has secured the conviction of one Wahab Nasiru Olabanji for fraudulently collecting various sums of monies from unsuspecting victims with the promise of giving them employment.
This is coming as the Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority, OYRLEA has begun its enforcement against street trading, anti-open rearing/grazing regulations and other related laws in the State impounding three rams and a cow.
Olabanji, who until his trial, was a Chief Executive Officer (Accounts) on grade level 14 at the Oyo State Hospital Management Board was alleged accused of collecting the monies from applicants who applied for the last recruitments at the State Hospital Management Board and the State Teaching Service Commission.
In a Press Release signed by the Chairman of OYACA, Justice Eni Esan, a retired judge, the Olabanji was convicted on a 30-counts charge of official corruption, obtaining money under false pretense and conversion, to which he was sentenced to six months imprisonment with an option of N50,0000 on each count of the charge.
“The man was convicted on a thirty counts charge of official corruption, obtaining money under false pretense and conversion, however, after rigorous 17-month trial, the court delivered its judgement on Friday, 1st of August, 2025, in which the defendant was found guilty on all the 30-counts charge and he was sentenced to imprisonment for six months with an option of N50,000 fine on each count of the charge.
“The court also ordered the defendant to pay all sums fraudulently obtained from his victims within three months in order to remedy the wrong suffered by the victims due to the corrupt and fraudulent actions of the defendant,” Eni Esan said.
She reiterated OYACA’s commitment towards zero tolerance for corruption in the public service of Oyo State.
Meanwhile, Aderonke Aderemi, retired judge and Chairperson, OYRLEA, Francis Ojomo, retired Deputy, Chairman, Environmental Task Force, commissioner of police led enforcement against street trading, anti-open rearing/grazing regulations and other related laws in Ibadan
The duo emphasized the Oyo state government’s readiness and swift response to tackle and sort every related offence, thus prosecuting violators of the extant laws.
They added that the Enforcement highlights crack down on street traders at Bodija Market, Ibadan, with evacuation of mini stalls and mobile counters as well as wares and goods displayed on the roadside.
The Chairman OYRLEA said, “Recall that extensive sensitization and campaign efforts against street trading began with a flag-off at Bodija Market earlier this year in January, and such had been a continuum till date.”
She added that OYRLEA is now taking enforcement action to ensure compliance, she added.
In another development, following some petitions received from residents of Unique Estate, Oluyole, Ibadan, three rams, and a cow were impounded by the enforcement team.
Speaking, the Chairman OYRLEA reiterated the Agency’s commitment to enforcing environmental and sanitation laws, as well as anti-open rearing and grazing regulations and other related laws in the State.
Aderemi gave the owner a seven-day ultimatum to claim them to avoid forfeiture, in lieu of fine option.
Likewise, residents of Abidiodan, at Lagelu Local Government Area, Ibadan, have been issued a 7-day ultimatum to evacuate shanties on road setbacks, which have become hideouts for criminals and illegal activities.
The Enforcement team was joined by Operation Burst, Environmental Task Force, officers from the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, Amotekun among others.
