The Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Osun State has accused the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) of releasing Local Government account forms to All Progressives Congress (APC) in the State, describing the APC representatives as “impostors.”
Speaking with newsmen in Osogbo on Tuesday, Sarafadeen Awotunde, the ALGON Chairman, alleged that the CBN Osun regional office issued a form on Local Government accounts to the APC Chairmen “despite a valid Court judgment sacking them from office.”
Awotunde said his team had gone to the CBN office in Osogbo on Monday after receiving information that the APC officials had been given access to the form to clarify the situation and engage the CBN Controller in the State on the need to recognise only the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Council Chairmen.
He said,”We went to CBN yesterday around after 3p.m, when we heard that some dismissed YES/No APC impostors had gone to get a form on LG account. We talked to the person we met at the CBN Osogbo about it, he promised to relay our message to the Controller General of CBN about it because we are sure the CG knew the rightful owner of the form and legally backed council chairmen who are eligible to append their signatures. While we settle that one they gave us 8am today to come to their office.
“We arrived at the CBN quarter to 8 O’ clock to wait for the controller, we later learned that she is inside her office, probably she went through the back door to her office and doesn’t want to attend to us.”
He further accused one of the private security personnel at the apex bank of marching on the Court paper they gave them, and that “they also barricaded the entrance to the CBN premises, preventing anyone from staying there, so we had to leave.”
He said, “What is happening in Osun is illegal, CBN don’t need to be embarrassing itself over this matter, we request that they should transfer the Osun Controller General if she feel she can’t do what is right.”
Awotunde appealed to President Bola Tinubu, the Accountant-General of the Federation, and the Ministry of Finance to intervene and prevent what he termed the creation of artificial anarchy in the State.
“We are peaceful, but enough is enough. The CBN must not allow itself to be used to undermine the rule of law,” he said.
