The Edo State Government has approved N2.5 billion for a Paediatric centre for the University of Benin Teaching Hospital, Benin City, Edo State.
The State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, announced the approval during the new Idia Ize-Iyamu, the new Chief Medical Director of the hospital, paid a courtesy visit to the Governor in Government House, Benin
Okpebholo opined that the construction of a world-class Paediatric Centre worth N2.5 billion would transform paediatric healthcare services for children in Edo State and beyond.
While congratulating Ize-Iyamu on her historic appointment as the first female CMD of the teaching hospital, assured her of the Edo State Government’s continuous partnership in advancing the health sector.
In her remarks, Idia Ize-Iyamu appreciated and expressed gratitude to the governor for his visionary support.
Ize-Iyamu noted that the approval is a testament to her administration’s resolve to pursue strategic collaborations as a hallmark of her leadership.
The CMD who presented a request for the Governor’s intervention in establishing a modern Paediatric Centre in the hospital described the governor’s gesture as not just the beginning, unprecedented, but the first of its kind in the 52-year history of the hospital.
“Our commitment is to ensure that UBTH becomes a centre of excellence in healthcare delivery, training, and research. With the support of our partners, we will continue to expand access to quality, affordable, and modern healthcare for the people of Edo State and the entire region,” she said.
Ize-Iyamu, who was recently appointed as the Chief Medical Director of UBTH by the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, was accompanied on the visit by members of the UBTH Management Team.
