The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has honoured three petroleum marketers in Adamawa for consistent compliance with regulations on accurate fuel dispensing.

Bashir Kafur, state coordinator of the Authority, presented the awards at the 3rd Quarter Stakeholders’ Engagement Meeting held last Friday in Yola.

Kafur said that the recognition was part of efforts to promote transparency and fairness in the downstream sector.

He explained that while erring marketers were often sanctioned publicly, it was necessary to also commend those who abide by the rules.

“Every day, our surveillance team visits outlets secretly and takes inventory without their knowledge.

“For the past two years, these operators have remained faithful in dispensing accurately at zero. If you buy 10 litres, you get exactly 10 litres,” Kafur said.

The coordinator named the awardees as Maikadiri Nigeria Ltd, Fahimta Oil Nigeria Ltd, and NNPC Retail Affiliate (Madagali Oil).

He urged other marketers to emulate their example while warning against diversion and smuggling of petroleum products.

According to him, supply to Madagali Local Government Area was restricted to two approved outlets due to security concerns.

Responding, Isa Bapetel, owner of Maikadiri Nigeria Ltd, an independent marketer, expressed appreciation, describing the recognition as the first official acknowledgement of his company’s compliance since joining the business.

“Independent marketers in Adamawa are over 500, and only two of us were selected. This has encouraged us to continue on the path of honesty and good conduct,” Bapetel said.

Similarly, Tukur Madagali, Chairman Madagali Oil, an NNPC retail affiliate, said the honour was a source of pride, noting that in 20 years of operation, this was the first public recognition of his station.

“I have always conducted my business diligently without tampering with meters. I urge regulators across states to emulate this initiative of rewarding honesty while sanctioning defaulters to help sanitise the system,” he said.

Bello Haruna, director of Fahimta Oil Nigeria Ltd, an independent marketer, attributed the recognition to fear of God and respect for humanity in doing the right thing.

He also expressed appreciation to the authority for the gesture.
