Nigeria’s Consul-General in Cameroon, Taofik Coker, dies at 59

Taofik Coker, Nigeria’s Consul-General in Buea, Cameroon, has died.

The federal ministry of foreign affairs confirmed his passing in a statement on Wednesday, announcing that he died on 16th August after a brief illness.

“Ambassador Coker was a hard-working and dedicated career diplomat who served Nigeria with distinction, commitment and professionalism in different capacities,” said ministry spokesperson Kimiebi Ebienfa. “His untimely death is a great loss to the diplomatic community and the nation at large.”

President Bola Tinubu appointed Coker in April 2024, and he assumed office the following month, pledging to strengthen ties between Nigeria and Cameroon.

Before his posting to Buea, he had served in several Nigerian missions abroad, including Conakry, Guinea, and Shanghai, China.

The ministry extended condolences to his family, colleagues and friends, praying for the repose of his soul.
