NBCC to foster foreign investment in Nigerian firms

The Nigerian-British Chambers of Commerce (NBCC) is set to promote foreign investment and bilateral trade among Nigerian firms and foreign investors at its forthcoming trade mission in the United Kingdom.

Segun Akintemi, chairman of the Trade and Investment Committee at a news conference on Thursday in Lagos stated the theme for the 2025 NBCC Trade Mission slated for April 7-11, ‘Driving Trade, Investment and Creativity Towards a Stronger Global Economic Future.’

According to the chairman, the trade mission aims to change the Nigerian narrative about its business landscape and creative industry among foreign investors which is a part of NBCC’s efforts to stimulate economic growth and development in the country,

He affirmed that the trade mission would strengthen bilateral trade and investment between Nigeria and the United Kingdom.

“The NBCC is on a mission to promote Nigerian companies and government agencies as strategic partners in international trade by providing Nigerian firms with insights into the UK policies, financing options, and market trends,” he said.

The chairman stressed that the NBCC’s Advocacy Committee will collaborate to foster a business-friendly environment in Nigeria and the UK, aiming to attract foreign investors and stimulate economic growth.

“The committee will pinpoint ways to advocate for its members’ interests by establishing a task force to scrutinize and address challenges related to customs, immigration, and taxation, thereby facilitating a smoother business environment for entrepreneurs,” Akintemi said.

During the 2025 NBCC’s Trade mission, the company would set up sector-specific business-to-business meetings to connect Nigerian firms with their UK counterparts. However, there would also be expert-led sessions to provide insights on market entry strategies, trade regulations, and investment opportunities.

Jumoke Oduwole, minister of Industry, Trade, and Investment in Nigeria will be speaking to foreign investors about the Nigerian trade landscape as well as  Olasupo Olusi, MD/CEO of the Bank of Industry (BOI).

“There would be a mix of cultural expiration and a high level of networking as Hannatu Musa Musawa, minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism, and the Creative Economy in Nigeria would be present at the trade mission,” he said.

Akintemi added Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the president of Nigeria and other state governors have also agreed to feature in the trade mission.

“The Lagos State government would partner with the trade mission by bringing a lot of their subsidiaries during the exhibitions to showcase Lagos’s products and services to the world,” he added.
