George Muoghalu, the Labour Party (LP) governorship candidate for the November 8 Anambra gubernatorial poll, has assured quality and qualitative governance.
Moghalu made the pledge at All Saints Cathedral, Onitsha on Friday during the symbolic flag off of his campaign.
He thanked the people for coming out in their good number to be part of the campaign flag-off ceremony.
Muoghalu, accomplished by his deputy, Ifeoma Veronica Okaro,
assured that they would govern the state with the fear of God, relying heavily on God’s grace to make meaningful progress.
He also assured that his administration would ask people to pay tax, but will never unleash pestle wielding touts on the good people of the state.
He said that his administration would also tackle insecurity and restore confidence in governance.
Ugochukwu Emeh, State Chairman of the party, represented by Ven. Chris Orajiekwe said: “It is time to take Anambra state to the next level. The state is not exclusively owned by any individual.”
He said that the state would soon become an LP state, while extolling the capacity and capability of the members, which he noted have massive structure across the state.
“LP will deliver Ndi-Anambra from Ndi aka Odo and bad governance, LGAs will have functional health centres, effective security network, where people can sleep with their two eyes closed,” he said.
According to him, the party carefully searched for a credible, competent and capable personality and unanimously agreed on Dr Moghalu.
Peter Obi, the presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, in his speech recalled his outstanding performance in office as the governor of Anambra state.
He said that Moghalu and his running mate are coming to replicate the positive change he occasioned in the state.
“We are here to inaugurate George Moghalu’s campaign, he is our party standard bearer.
“We chose a female deputy governor because we want to care for families. She’s not only popular, but organised.
“You might have heard that the only thing I did was building brewery. But the same brewery gave employment to thousands of people. The brewery is the highest tax payer in the state and IGR company.
“You can compare that with the Solution Fun City you have today. Which one is more profitable,” he added.
On his future political ambition, Obi said: “Let me remind you that I’m contesting president in 2027 and I’m serious about it. It’s no longer news. Everyone has right to contest, but none of them is better than me.
“I have the backing of the senators, House of Representatives members and others.”
He clarified the rumour that he has dumped Labour Party for African Democratic Congress (ADC), saying, “Let me state categorically, I and all the members both at the state and national levels are part of the coalition that have adopted ADC for 2027 election.
“Today, we’re LP members. That’s why we’re here for symbolic flag off campaign for LP flag bearer, Dr George Moghalu.
“We urge you to go to your constituencies and convince people. You live in Anambra so I don’t need to tell you what’s happening here.
“You can access yourselves. Governance for me is about compassion and empathy, caring for the lowly, petty traders.
“It’s not these same poor masses you tax. Instead of ensuring they are fed well and go to school. I’ve governed Anambra state and I don’t boast of things I didn’t do. They’re verifiable.”
Dignitaries at the event included
Sen. Victor Umeh, Sen. Tony Nwoye Hon. George Ozodinobi, Hon. Emeka Idu, Prof. Lilian Orogbu, Hon. Uchenna Okonkwo, representatives of Gov Alex Otti of Abia state, Clement Ojukwu (Deputy National Chairman) of LP and others.
