The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) has confirmed that the death toll from Saturday’s building collapse in the Ojodu-Berger area has risen to five.

The incident occurred at a three-storey structure located at Nos. 9 and 10 Oremeta Street, which caved in while housing a restaurant. Several employees and customers were trapped beneath the rubble.

Initial reports from the agency had indicated one fatality and nine injuries. However, in an updated statement issued at 5:48 a.m. on April 20, LASEMA said a total of 17 victims have now been accounted for — five dead and 12 rescued with injuries.

“The fatalities include three females and two adult males,” the agency disclosed.

Emergency responders remain at the site, where search-and-rescue operations continue. The affected area has been sealed off to ensure safety and support recovery efforts, LASEMA added.
