The maiden Lagos Trade Fair has empowered entrepreneurs with the tools and knowledge needed to expand into international markets.

The two-day event, held on September 6 and 7 at Yard 158, Kudirat Abiola Way, Ikeja, brought together about 100 vendors showcasing products and services in fashion, food, lifestyle, technology, and beauty.

It featured food courts, entertainment, and games, creating a vibrant, festive atmosphere that attracted a large audience, including popular gospel musician Tope Alabi.

Nancy Okpa and Olamide Olatunde, Senior Trade Officers at the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), equipped vendors with step-by-step export procedures, insights on international standards compliance, and strategies to scale their businesses globally.

Monalisa Abimbola Aze, lawyer-turned-entrepreneur and CEO of Mona Matthews, who curated the event, praised NEPC’s role in boosting the export capacity of participants.

“Vendors will be more confident and equipped to navigate the exportation process. Through exportation, entrepreneurs can expand their businesses and access the global market.

“I am overwhelmed by the success of the event. It has shown that with determination and hard work, we can create lasting impact and opportunities for business growth,” she said

Janet Afolabi, Publisher and Queen of Apomu Kingdom, who collaborated with Aze, described the trade fair as a bold step toward diversifying Nigeria’s economy.

“By promoting non-oil exports, NEPC is helping to reduce Nigeria’s vulnerability to oil price fluctuations. Exportation will increase foreign exchange earnings and strengthen the economy,” she noted.

Afolabi described it as a “great first attempt” that exceeded expectations. “It was incredible to see entrepreneurs come together to celebrate enterprise and innovation. The energy was amazing. We look forward to building on this momentum,” she added.

The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) also engaged entrepreneurs during the fair, sensitising them on the importance of product registration and compliance for both local and international markets.

Several vendors expressed satisfaction with the exposure and business opportunities gained. Enobong Ezekiel, CEO/Founder of Coreal8, said, “I am honoured to have been a part of this experience. I was able to connect with many customers and partners. The organisers did an incredible job of creating a vibrant and supportive atmosphere.”
