Adekimi Ojo, Kwara State Commissioner of Police, has announced plans to revive the X-Squad Unit to monitor the conduct of Police officers across the State.

Ojo, who stated this during an interactive session with journalists at the Police Officers’ Mess in Ilorin, assured that the Unit would ensure better accountability and discipline among personnel.

While clearing air on the issue of parading suspects before the media, he noted that the Police stopped the practice in line with the directive of the Inspector General of Police.

“We no longer parade suspects because the law presumes them innocent until a competent court says otherwise,” he stated.

The police Commissioner, however, declared a more open and collaborative relationship between the State Police Command and practicing journalists in the State, describing the media as a vital bridge between the police and the public.

Ojo appealed to journalists to continue to support the Police in delivering on their constitutional duties, noting that public awareness of the command’s efforts largely depends on accurate media coverage, even as he emphasised that the Police under his leadership would foster seamless communication and create a conducive atmosphere for information sharing.

“We are ready to work closely with the media because you are our link to the people. Without you, the public won’t know what we are doing,” he said.
