Governor Dikko Umaru Radda of Katsina State has reinforced his administration’s commitment to renewable energy solutions as a pathway to economic prosperity and job creation, following a strategic partnership review with Genesis Energy Group.

The governor recently hosted Genesis Energy Chairman Akinwole Omoboriowo II and his team at the Government House to evaluate the State’s solar power installations and chart the next phase of their collaboration.

During the visit, the company pointed out some of the major achievements of the partnership, noting that 1MW Solar MiniGrid now powers Government House with 12 hours daily electricity, a 300KW Solar PV system provides reliable power to General Hospital, Katsina, a significant reduction in diesel dependency and operational costs and enhanced healthcare delivery through consistent power supply.

He commended the company for the speed in the execution of the initial projects, noting their transformative impact on government operations and healthcare services.

“I sincerely thank Genesis Energy for their excellent work. The General Hospital now has reliable power crucial for healthcare delivery, while Government House enjoys 12 hours of consistent electricity daily,” the Governor said.

Governor Radda emphasised that the renewable energy drive goes beyond infrastructure development, “Energy security is fundamental to easing the hardships faced by our people. Reliable power unlocks opportunities for local businesses, healthcare facilities, and educational institutions, fostering socioeconomic development.”

The governor highlighted the environmental benefits, stating that reduced diesel use aligns with Nigeria’s Energy Transition Plan and the national goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2060.

“Our goal is clear—sustainable energy must be a catalyst for prosperity and job creation in Katsina State. This partnership ensures our energy landscape becomes greener, more resilient, and more inclusive,” Governor Radda concluded.

Omoboriowo noted ambitious expansion plans under their Memorandum of Understanding with the State, saying, “We are now focused on deploying MiniGrids at the Green Economic Zone along Jibia Road and in Lambar Rimi, home to the state’s wind farm, as well as other strategic locations.”
