Julius Berger Nigeria Plc has announced bold steps into the future of construction, stating that Artificial Intelligence (AI) is now central to its operations and is ushering in a new era of what it calls “Construction Intelligence.”

Speaking at the 2025 Luminary Soiree of the company on Tuesday in Lagos, Peer Lubasch, Managing Director, said Julius Berger is not merely observing the AI revolution but actively integrating it into its engineering and construction processes.

“Tonight is about meaningful conversations. It’s about building new connections. And most of all, it’s about putting ourselves together – at the front of a global shift that is already reshaping construction.

“In our laboratories and material testing, AI-driven analytics are helping us improve accuracy, speed up results, and make smarter decisions in quality control. We are witnessing what I would call Construction Intelligence,” Lubasch said.

He explained that PrimeTech, a subsidiary of the Julius Berger Group, is already deploying generative design tools, collaborative platforms, and automated clash detection to shorten planning cycles and deliver greater precision in project execution.

Lubasch outlined the company’s broader vision to embed AI across its value chain, including predictive maintenance, adaptive scheduling, real-time safety monitoring, smart dashboards, risk anticipation, and support for contract management and legal teams.

“Together, these tools will transform Julius Berger into a data-driven, intelligent construction enterprise, setting new standards in performance, safety, quality, and client value,” he added

The Julius Berger boss emphasised that the future of construction must not only be “smart” but also “right,” urging industry leaders to embrace fairness, inclusion, and integrity alongside technological advancement.

Guest speakers at the event reinforced the transformative power of AI. Ugochi Agoreyo, a Senior Executive at Google, described AI as a “complementary technology” that augments human creativity and judgment rather than replacing it. She noted that AI’s applications cut across healthcare, finance, education, governance, agriculture, and construction, making it a foundational technology for Africa’s future.

Another speaker, Jurgen Willen of Willen Associates, an offshore architectural firm, highlighted how AI is shaping architectural and urban planning projects by enabling forward-looking, future-proof designs.

The event drew prominent figures from business, finance, oil and gas, and architecture, including Tony Elumelu, Chairman of Heirs Foundation and UBA, Winifred Akpani, Founder of Northwest Group, and Belinda Disu, Chairman of Abumet and member of Julius Berger’s Board, among others.
