The cause of the fire remains unknown, but witnesses stated that it originated from an apartment where a mother had locked her 3-year-old son inside before leaving for an errand.

In a dramatic rescue, neighbors had to break down the door to save the trapped child, who sustained injuries and is now receiving treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

Although no life was lost, residents lamented that valuables worth millions were destroyed, leaving many families displaced.

The fire was however, brought under control by a combined effort of local youths and operatives of the Kano Fire Service.

Speaking at the scene, the Kano Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, cautioned parents against leaving their children locked indoors.

“This incident is a clear reminder of the dangers of locking children inside without supervision. We urge parents to be more vigilant,” Bakori stated.

The commissioner also advised residents to avoid cooking inside their rooms, emphasizing the importance of designated cooking areas in residential buildings.
