Over 300 residents have been displaced and at least 30 homes destroyed following a series of coordinated attacks by gunmen suspected to be herders in Qua’an-Pan Local Government Area of Plateau State.
The attacks, which affected 10 communities in the Doemak District, occurred in late August as farmers were preparing for harvest.
Danaan Cletus Sylvanus, the Director of Press and Publicity to the Executive Chairman of Qua’an-Pan LGA, confirmed the incident to reporters in Jos.
According to him, the gunmen also destroyed farm barns, further compounding the losses suffered by residents. The affected communities include Nteng, Doop, Zhep Morop, Gyeergu, Kelaghan, Loon, Kwakii, and Gorom.

Syvlvanus, said Christopher Manship, the chairman of the Local Government Area, expressed deep concern over the renewed wave of violence.
“Speaking at a security meeting held in Doemak, he urged traditional rulers, religious leaders, and local development associations to collaborate in finding a lasting solution to the crisis.
“Security operatives had been swiftly deployed to the attacked areas in an effort to contain the violence and protect remaining residents”,; the Director of Press quoted the chairman.
As part of the response efforts, the spokesperson said the Chairman also visited the affected villages to assess the damage and show solidarity with the displaced. During the visit, he urged security agencies to remain vigilant and proactive to prevent further attacks.
He noted that the chairman further assured the displaced persons that his administration was committed to their welfare and safe return.
