Two separate fire outbreaks on Saturday wreaked havoc in Monguno Local Government Area, leaving dozens of families homeless and destroying over 80 makeshift shelters at an Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camp, along with 15 houses in Gana Ali Ward in of Borno State.
The first fire broke out at approximately 2:58 p.m. in Gana Ali Ward, swiftly consuming residential structures and personal belongings.
Just minutes later, at 3:10 p.m., another fire outbreak was reported at the Government Girls Secondary School IDP Camp, reducing makeshift shelters to ashes.
Food supplies, household items, and other valuables were lost in both incidents.

Emergency responders, including state firefighters and security personnel, worked to contain the fires, while police patrol teams were deployed to manage crowds and prevent looting. Fortunately, no casualties were recorded.
The incidents have raised concerns over fire safety in overcrowded displacement camps, where makeshift shelters are often vulnerable to such disasters.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the fires and are currently assessing the full extent of the damage.
