FG sets up committee for assessment, allocation of recovered 753-unit estate

The Federal Government has inaugurated a Ministerial Committee to oversee the technical assessment, completion planning, and disposal strategy for a 753-unit housing estate recently recovered by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The terms of reference for the committee includes the conduct of a thorough structural and integrity test of the buildings.

The committee, chaired by the Ministry’s Permanent Secretary and comprising Directors and Special Advisers, has been tasked with conducting a comprehensive technical and structural assessment of the estate, evaluating existing work, estimating completion costs, and developing standardised architectural guidelines.

It will also propose a transparent and inclusive strategy for allocating the units, prioritising affordability, equity, and access via the Renewed Hope Housing Portal.

“To ascertain the number and status of the housing units;
To evaluate the value of existing work done through proper surveying and market valuation.
To assess the cost of completing internal roads, power, water, security infrastructure, and public amenities;
To develop standardised architectural and finishing guides for consistency and quality assurance.

“To propose a clear, transparent, and inclusive strategy for the disposal and allocation of the housing units, prioritising special government needs, affordability, equity, and public access through the Renewed Hope Housing Portal;

To design a robust communication and public engagement plan that builds public confidence,”

Dangiwa also said that the committee is to ensure inter-agency coordination with stakeholders like EFCC, FCTA, and utility providers, while submitting a preliminary report within four weeks from today.

The estate, located in the Cadastral Zone of the FCT, was officially handed over to the Ministry by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on May 20, 2025.

“This recovered estate must serve as a reference point of what is possible when public institutions work in synergy for the people. This is not just another government assignment. It is a mission to deliver value, hope, and homes.”

The Minister urged committee members to work with urgency, integrity, and innovation to meet public expectations.

Key stakeholders, including the Federal Capital Territory Administration, EFCC, and utility service providers, are expected to collaborate with the committee. A preliminary report is expected within four weeks.
