The Federal Executive Council (FEC), on Wednesday, approved the sum of N13 billion as right of way compensation for the Lagos-Ogun power project

This is as FEC also approved the sum of $34m for the procurement of 14 power transformers to strengthen power supply from the national grid.

Adebayo Adelabu, Minister of Power stated this while briefing State House Journalists after the meeting of the Council presided over by President Bola Tinubu.

Th Minister, who stated that he presented four papers to the Council for approvals, added that “the first paper was a request to the Council to approve the resumption and continuation of the disbursement of compensation for right of way for the leaders of industrial and transmission projects.”

The Council approved the Power Minister’s request for the sum of N13 billion.

Lagos trans industrial of transmission project is being funded through an $8 million development loan from Japanese International Cooperation Agency JAICA.

He announced that the project, when completed, would not only improve capacity and credibility of power supply along the industrial axis of Lagos/Ogun, it would also be a good news for industrial development and ensure that industries around that axis enjoy regular power supply.

“It will enable us to achieve the new agenda of use what we produce and produce What we use by improving local production that will substitute imports”, he added.

The other three papers were actually in respect of approval for procurement of various power transformers to replace weak and dilapidated ones across the national grid.

The minister argued that the project would not only enhance power supply, but also relieve overloaded power transformers that is operating across the national grid.

The minister stated that “It will also enable us to cope with the increased capacity of the national grid.”

Adelabu, who noted that the “National Grid is over 50 years old, added that “we know that a lot of the power transformers and the cables are old.

“They are weak, so there is a necessity for us to regularly maintain the grid and replace all these old and liquidated infrastructure for us to have a more stable and effective national grid.

“The total approvals for this transformers for procurement is $34 million dollars, with an additional 5.2 billion naira. The transformers are actually 14 in number and they includes two, number 150, MVA 331, 32 x3 kv transformers and five number 100, MVA, 132 33 kv transformers

“Others are five number 60 MVA, 132 33 KV power transformers, and lastly, two numbers of 30 MVA, 132 33 KV power transformers

“Upon procurement, this will actually make the grid to be more efficient, more effective, and will improve power supply to all our households, to offices, to small businesses and to industries.” he said
