The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has promoted 49 Deputy Directors to the rank of Director, following approval by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike.
The promotions stem from the administration’s first Computer-Based Test (CBT) promotion exercise, conducted on August 12, 2025, at the National Open University’s Duste-Alhaji Study Centre in Bwari Area Council.
Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications to the Minister, said the initiative was introduced to clear outstanding promotions for Grade Level 16 officers from 2023 to 2025. All 49 officers have now moved to Grade Level 17.
“The development follows Minister Wike’s approval of the CBT results,” Olayinka stated.
“The exam was organized to address pending promotions for eligible officers on Grade Level 16.”
Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, Emeka Eze, said the newly promoted Directors will occupy 49 of 63 existing vacancies. He noted that the process was designed to meet staffing needs across key departments and align with public sector standards.
Eze added that the Education Officer Cadre had the highest number of promoted officers, with 20 individuals.
The Accountant Cadre followed with nine. Other cadres, including Civil Engineering, Social Welfare, Tourism, Fisheries, and Medical Officers, had one promotion each.
“In the Education Cadre, 820 officers competed for 20 positions,” he said. “In the Admin Cadre, 12 officers competed for 10 positions.”
The CBT format, introduced in the FCTA, aimed to promote merit-based advancement and reduce irregularities seen in manual assessments. A 60 per cent pass mark was set to standardise evaluation and expedite result processing.
