The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has arrested five notorious banditry suspects in a major operation that also led to the recovery of a large cache of arms and ammunition.
The operation, which was coordinated by the Scorpion Squad between September 20 and 28, took place in Nasarawa State, where the suspects were tracked down after months of intelligence gathering.
According to the Command, the gang had been on the wanted list of security agencies for their roles in several kidnappings across the North Central, North West, and North East regions of the country.
Those arrested include Abdullahi Garuba, also known as Alhaji Ore, a 40-year-old male; Yusuf Inuwa, popularly called Alhaji Dabunda, a 59-year-old male; David Kaika, also known as Baba, a 29-year-old male; Baba Imaji, a 36-year-old female; and Ibrahim Nasiru, known as Pepper, a male suspect.

During the raid, police operatives recovered 2,186 rounds of live 7.62 x 39mm AK-47 ammunition, two AK-47 rifles with obliterated serial numbers, a locally fabricated pistol with two live cartridges, as well as five operational motorcycles which the suspects reportedly used for their criminal activities.
Josephine Adeh, FCT Police spokesperson, said the suspects have confessed to their crimes and will be charged in court at the end of ongoing investigations.
The Command added that efforts are in progress to apprehend other gang members still on the run.
Ajao Adewale, Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP, commended the gallantry of the officers involved in the operation and reassured residents of his commitment to rid Abuja and its environs of crime and criminality.
