Mathew Iduoriyekemwen, the Director-General of Asue Ighodalo/Osarodion Ogie’s campaign organization in the September 21, 2024, governorship election, has resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Iduoriyekemwen was a former majority leader in the Edo State House of Assembly on the party’s platform during the administration of Chief Lucky Igbinedion, as governor of the state.

He had in the past contested as the party’s governorship candidate and Edo South senatorial district candidate of the party.

The PDP chieftain announced his resignation from the party in a letter dated July 17, 2025, and addressed to Esemuede Andrew, the chairman of the party in Ward 5, Ikpoba Okha Local Government Area.

He attributed his decision to resign from the party to the recent developments within the party both at the state and national levels.

He opined that the development had made it difficult for him to remain a member of the party.

According to him, “I am writing to formally resign my membership from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ward 5, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area, Edo State.

“This is a painstaking decision for me, as the PDP has played a vital role in my political journey and personal development. For this, I am deeply grateful and will always cherish the platform the party provided me.

“However, recent developments within the party — both at the state and national levels — have made it difficult for me to remain a member of the party.

“The values and principles that once defined the PDP, as laid down by our founding fathers, appear to have been eroded. What we see today no longer aligns with the version they had for a truly democratic, all-inclusive, and people-oriented political party. In view of this, | have decided to resign my membership of the party to enable me to concentrate fully on my family and business engagements.

“This is not a decision made out of anger or haste, but one rooted in deep reflection and a sincere desire to preserve my personal values and integrity”, he said

He, however, thanked the leadership and members of the party in the ward for their love and support over the years, just as he wished the party well in its future endeavors.
