..Alarm is meant to incite emergency rule – PDP
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has petitioned security agencies, alleging a plot by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP)-led government to recruit armed thugs and incite violence across Local Government Areas in the State.
In the petition dated June 16, 2025 and addressed to the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), the APC accused Kolapo Alimi, the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment; Hassim Abioye, Chairman of the Osun State Independent Electoral Commission (OSSIEC); Olawale Rasheed, Spokesperson to the Governor and Sunday Bisi, PDP State Chairman, of hatching plans to unleash political violence on reinstated APC chairmen.
The petition, signed by Adegoke Ogunsola, the party’s State Legal Adviser, alleged that the accused individuals were acting on behalf of the State Government to destabilise local governance by recruiting armed political thugs to attack APC officials elected during the October 15, 2022, Council polls.
According to the APC, “The information at the disposal of the State Executive Council of All Progressives Congress, Osun State Chapter is that plans are being perfected by the afore-mentioned individuals on behalf of Osun State Clovertisment, under the leadership of His Excellency, Senator Ademola Nurudeen Jakson Adeleke, the Executive Governor of Osun State, to recruit armed thugs with the sole aim of attacking the political functionaries in the Local Government Councils and Area Offices in Osun State, who were elected on the 15th October, 2022 on the platform of All Progressives Congress, but later illegally removed by the Osun State Governor through an Executive Order pursuant to the judgment of the Federal High Court, Osogbo, delivered on 25 November, 2025, but the judgment which was later set aside on appeal to the Court of Appeal through the judgment of the Court of Appeal, Akure delivered on 10 February, 2025 and also confirmed by the Court of Appeal judgment of the Court of Appeal, Akure, delivered on 13th June, 2025.”
The APC urged Security Agencies to investigate the matter thoroughly and take proactive steps to prevent a recurrence of such violence.
It also called for the protection of its members and public facilities at the local government level.
But, in a swift reaction to the allegation, Oladele Bamiji, PDP Spokesperson, said the APC is merely afraid of its own shadow, accusing the opposition party of fabricating security concerns as part of a calculated move to pressure the Federal Government into declaring a state of emergency in the State.
PDP said, “So our Government has never been in support of bloodshed and the party, certainly, that is the umbrella father of the Government, is certainly also not in support of any kind of violence. They are the ones trying to orchestrate violence, perhaps to try and play or walk off an answer to the state of emergency which they have all this craving for through their leaders.”
