The All Progressives Congress (APC), Plateau State Chapter, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of Lydia Yilwatda, mother of the party’s National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda.
In a statement signed by Shittu Bamaiyi, the Acting Publicity Secretary of the party in the state, made available to Journalists on Sunday in Jos, the party described her passing as a painful and devastating loss, not just to the Yilwatda family, but to the entire APC family in Plateau State and across Nigeria.
Lydia Yilwatda died on the morning of Sunday at the Jos University Teaching Hospital (JUTH) at the age of 83, according to family sources.
The statement praised the late Lydia as a devoted Christian, a virtuous and humble woman leader, and a pillar in the Church of Christ in Nations (COCIN), where she played a key role alongside her late husband, Toma Goshewe Yilwatda, a reverend, in strengthening church work across Borno, Yobe, Bauchi, and Plateau States.
The APC noted that Lydia’s passing comes at a time when her counsel and prayers were most needed, particularly by her son, the National Chairman. However, the party finds consolation in the rich legacy she left behind, especially in the lives and achievements of her children.
While sharing in Yilwatda’s grief, the APC prayed for the repose of Lydia’s soul, describing her as an irreplaceable loss to the church, the women’s fellowship, and Plateau State as a whole.
“A devoted Christian, virtuous, humane and humble women leader, particularly in the Church of Christ in Nations(COCIN),the late Mama Lydia was known for the tireless and immeasurable efforts and those of her late Husband, Reverend Toma Goshewe Yilwatda, in boosting the Church in Borno, Yobe,Bauchi and Plateau States.
The consoling record is that, the deceased left behind an indelible and an accomplished legacy, which is manifested in her children. Surely her demise, is a great loss to the Church and theWomen fellowship as well as Plateau state”.
