Ita Enang said the establishment of National Derivation Commission (NDC) will address the challenges of deprivation and underdevelopment of the oil and minerals producing communities.

The agitation for a special commission to manage derivation fund is gaining momentum with Ita Enang, an aide to President Muhammadu Buhari throwing his weight behind it.

This is coming against the backdrop of criticisms that have trailed the lack of transparency in the utilisation of the derivation fund.

Furthermore, oil-bearing communities have recently been agitating for an oil-producing development commission to take care of their communities in the absence of development in oil-bearing communities.

According to Ita Enang, the establishment of National Derivation Commission (NDC) will address the challenges of deprivation and underdevelopment of the oil and minerals producing communities.

He said the commission would be charged with the responsibility of monitoring and ensuring that money that comes to Niger Delta and any other states as derivation is applied for the development of the area where these minerals were mined.

He made the call in a statement after he led the Host Communities of Nigeria Oil and Gas (HOSCON) to meet with the deputy Senate president, Omo Agege in Abuja.
