The weeklong celebrations marking the 60th birthday of Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, former governor of Rivers State, former speaker, former transportation minister, has ended. The faction of the All Progressives Congress (APC) loyal to him has hailed Nigerians for still recognizing what the party calls ‘true leadership’.

The APC faction led by Emeka Beke and recognized by court rulings, said the fact that most Nigerians spoke correctly about the qualities of Amaechi even when he is out of office is sign that Nigerians are watching and taking notes.

The faction is fiercely opposed to the Tony Okocha-led faction which incidentally is recognised by the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party and is loyal to the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, who is yet to officially defect to the ruling party.

The statement said despite what looks like evil now eclipsing good, most persons still looked deeply to recognize what Amaechi stands for in Nigerian politics, being equality of Nigerians, fair distribution of access to resources, and genuine fight to lift Nigerians out of poverty because the nation has the resources to do so.

The statement signed by Darlington Nwauju, publicity secretary of the faction, the worth of a true political leaders begins to show when he is out of office as Amaechi is at the moment.

The statement said the Rivers APC sincerely appreciates Nigerians from all walks of life for the massive show of solidarity and love towards the onetime governor of Rivers State as he marked his diamond birth anniversary.

“We extend our deepest appreciation to past and present leaders cutting across religious and party lines, the Conference of Former Assembly Speakers, former first ladies, media partners, socio-cultural groups, youth organisations, and teeming supporters for physically gracing the weeklong event which ended with a dinner at the Transcorp Hilton, yesterday, May 31, 2025.

“We say on behalf of the Executives of the APC in Rivers State, may the good Lord bless and honour all attendees.”

The statement said the solidarity and outpouring demonstrated to all Nigerians that most persons still regognise truth and sincere leadership, despite what seems to be eclipse of evil over good. “It may be a sound lesson to leaders to note that Nigerians are watching each person and when you are no longer in office, they may give their verdict, as they seem to give in this moment.”
