Newcastle United are reportedly on the verge of signing Aston Villa midfielder Jacob Ramsey in a deal worth £40 million.
According to BBC Sport, the two clubs are in advanced talks, with an agreement in principle already reached. Only the final details remain before the transfer is completed.
Once confirmed, Ramsey will undergo the necessary formalities, including a medical, before sealing his move to St James’ Park.
Villa host Newcastle in their Premier League opener on Saturday.
Ramsey, 24, a former England Under-21 international, has scored 17 goals in 167 appearances for Villa since making his senior debut in 2019 and was a regular under manager Unai Emery last season.
The midfielder would become Newcastle’s latest summer signing following winger Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest and defender Malick Thiaw from AC Milan.
England goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale also joined earlier this month on a season-long loan from Southampton.
