The road haulage sector in Nigeria is set for a major transformation following the groundbreaking ceremony and foundation laying for the ₦3.5 Billion Odogbolu Truck Stop Project at the Odogbolu Junction along the Sagamu–Benin Expressway.
This historic event marks a strategic Public-Private Partnership (PPP) between the Odogbolu Local Government Area (LGA), led by its Executive Chairman, Hon. Dr. Babatunde Diya, and 1st Truckstops Limited, member of TGroup.

Vision for an African Logistics Hub
The truck stop, situated on 17.8 hectares of land, is designed as a secure, one-stop logistics hub for heavy-duty vehicles plying the busy Ijebu-ode/Epe and Benin/Sagamu expressways. It directly addresses the challenges of roadside parking and poor infrastructure, which have long plagued the critical trade corridor.
Hon. Dr. Babatunde Diya emphasized the administration’s focus on sustainable development, stating: “Progress is built on unity, faith, and effort. Today, we are not just laying the foundation of a building; we are planting a tree that will shade generations yet unborn. This project represents progress, vision, and the rebirth of Odogbolu’s economy through innovation and partnership.”

Facility and Operational Goals
The project is an ultramodern, technology-enabled facility with an expected completion time of 24 months. The Managing Director of Odogbolu Truckstop, Ms. Oluwaseun Mamoye, painted a clear picture of the facility’s impact:
“A longhaul driver on the Sagamu-Benin Expressway will no longer have to sleep in his truck on the expressway. He can now pull into a secure, technology-enabled facility where he can park, refill his gas, rest in comfort, and repair his vehicle, and have access to other amenities he requires.”

With support from strategic partners like TGas (for clean energy solutions), TYard(for maintenance and repairs), TStore( for purchase of spare parts), Taxtech(for the automation of the project) and other TGroup Busineses, the truck stop is poised to become a benchmark for sustainable logistics infrastructure across Africa.
Economic Catalyst and Government Alignment
The truck stop is projected to be a major economic catalyst for Ogun State and Nigeria:
• Job Creation: The annual management and maintenance operations are expected to provide at least 150 direct jobs.
• Revenue Generation: The facility is estimated to achieve an annual turnover of +₦1 Billion from its second year of operation, with an estimated ₦150 Million generated in tax for Federal, State, and Local governments.
The project received strong backing from the state government. Engr. Bamidele Hassan, representing the Ogun State Commissioner for Transportation, Engr. Gbenga Dairo, confirmed that the initiative is “well aligned with the government’s plan to create an economic growth supporting ecosystem.”
Barrister Dapo Oduwole, the DG of the Office of Public Private Partnership, Ogun State, affirmed the state’s readiness for investors, commenting that Odogbolu Local Government and Ogun State are “open to investors and stated that the state and their investments will be safe.”

A First-Year Milestone for the LGA Chairman
The groundbreaking ceremony was particularly significant as it coincided with the first year in office of Hon. Dr. Babatunde Diya, highlighting the administration’s commitment to delivering high-impact projects.
The Deputy CEO of TGroup, Mr. Oyeyemi, reiterated the regional importance of the project, stating that the truck stop is “a vision that responds to the call of the locals for sustainable development and the need for security and safety on the highways of Africa.”
The ceremony was rounded off with the symbolic laying of the foundation, cementing a partnership that, as Ms. Mamoye concluded, is not just about building a facility, but about “building a future of prosperity, growth, and success.”
