It’s no doubt that 2017 has started off on a very good note with fantastic movies to look out for, every week we have had back to back amazing movies to watch out for. Well I won’t say that we haven’t had some annoying and not so good movies, but generally the month of January have being good so far and some of the movie producers have being smiling to the banks with movies grossing over in millions of dollars. It’s no doubt that this year has started on a very good note and we the movie lovers hope that it remains like this all through the year.
Basically, I will be looking at the movies that were at the box office in the month of January the responses from viewers and the grossing income compared to their production budget. I will be reviewing briefly 7 movies in the cinema right now and telling you the ones you missed out on and the ones you really should bother your head about.
So firstly let’s look out Arrival; it was an alien, sci-fri movie that was roughly about a 1hr 50mins that talked about how some spaceships with aliens landed from out of space, man was trying to unravel what the mysterious objects in the sky was all about, a little complex but became very clear at the tail end. They spent $47m dollars for the production budget and have grossed in over $195m dollars presently in the box office. Passengers was another lovely movies that also talked about travelling to another planet to start leaving on and they were meant to travel for 120years while asleep till they arrive, but unfortunately something went wrong on board and one of them woke up before time and that was when the trouble started. It had a nice storyline and was brilliant, about $110m dollars was spent on the production budget and the movie has grossed in $294m dollars so far. Rouge one has being the most fantastic of them all in the aspect of revenue made but wasn’t for the actual sense of the movie. So as usual rogue one was an action packed movie about humans fighting different forces and aliens. It is also one of the star wars movies hence the huge patronage and buy in, they spent $200m dollar on the production budget and have grossed in $1.1b dollars so far making it the highest grossing movie of the month and making it into one the highest grossing movies ever also. We also had Why him with a production budget of $38m grossing in $115m while Split spent only $9m and have made over $195m, unique classy movie of a guy with over 20 personalities controlling him at different times, scary but cool movies.
For the Nollywood section we have Ayanma which was about love and power. They revealed how two brothers fought each other for power, affluence, control and love, eventually one of the brothers died and the good one survived nice twist and storyline, but a little hitch with production quality. Hire a man was a very simple, unique movie, but yet very dramatic and funny. I enjoyed every bit of it and loved the end also nothing complex at all, just displayed how rivalry among 2 sisters can make them desperate to hiring men just to show off that they in a relationship. Nice story line and lessons well passed across. I think it would be really quite difficult to have any movie beat the wedding party anytime soon, but I am sure we will have very good movies as time goes by this year.
So on a closing note to my verdicts and to what you must see before they go off the cinemas, I feel you must see Passengers, Why him and Arrival, Ayanma and Hire a Man wasn’t a great fan on Rogue one. Generally, it was a good month in the cinemas and I sincerely feel it would be a good one for you to relax and catch up on what’s trending in the box office world.
