OLX, an online trading platform, says it is meeting the desire of Nigerians to sell and procure goods and services online, a top official of the company has said.

The company’s Country Manager, Mrs Lola Masha said at a recent event in Lagos that the online platform was a level playing field that facilitated easy and free trade.

Masha spoke on the topic “Peer-to-Peer Commerce as an E-Citizen’’ at the Society and Technology Exhibition 2014 in Lagos.

She said that online classifieds made trade affordable by cutting out the middle man and providing exposure to individual sellers.

Masha said that classified adverts levelled the playing field and allows Nigerians to financially benefit from the internet, adding that OLX provided a free platform to facilitate trade,” she said.

According to her, doing business the conventional way is cumbersome as it attracts huge overhead cost.

Masha, who holds a doctorate degree in Engineering, said that buyers transacting in conventional offline businesses did not get the best of deals.

“Sellers cannot afford the overhead and buyers don’t always get the best deals. Everybody buys, everybody sells, everybody is looking for the best deals in Lagos,” she said.

She advised small and medium scale entrepreneurs to leverage on the opportunities offered by online platforms to give visibility to their goods and services.

She expressed satisfaction with the growth of the OLX platform which, according to her, hosts about 723,000 number of adverts and 490, 000 on average monthly visit. (NAN)
