The Nigerian equities market capitalisation rose by N82bn after yesterday’s trading, driven majorly by increased buy decision in favour of large cap stock.
The Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) All Share Index (ASI) which tracks the performance of the bourse appreciated to close at 41,987.55 points from 41,740.54 points; while the market cap rose to N13.864trn against N13.782trn recorded the preceding trading day.
Price gains recorded by Dangote Cement plc shares placed the company ahead of other equities after it rose by N6.75, from N228.25 to N235; while Mobil Oil plc rose from N130.12 to N131.55, adding N1.43.
Lafarge WAPCO plc also rose from N110.65 to N112, adding N1.35; Okomu Oil Palm plc rose from N32.26 to N33.48, up by N1.22; while Total Nigeria plc also gained, moving up by N0.55, from N171.05 to N171.60.
In 5,983 deals, equity dealers exchanged 978,542,960 units valued at N8.498bn.
“We still maintain our stand of a slowdown in the bullish sentiment in the last two trading days; though closing the week positively. We remain bullish on the long term outlook of our preferred names like Diamond Bank, Zenith Bank, Access Bank, Flourmill, Guaranty Trust Bank, among others,” market analysts at UBA Capital said yesterday.
On the losers’ table, Oando plc led other equities after its share price dropped from N33.39 to N30.38, losing N3.01; followed by Nigerian Breweries plc which lost N3, from a high of N175 to N172.

PZ Cussons plc declined by N2, from N36.40 to N34.40; followed by Stanbic IBTC plc which dropped by N0.80, from N26.80 to N26; while Champion Breweries plc declined from N11.26 to N10.70, down by N0.56.
Actively traded equities at Customs Street include: Transnational Corporation of Nigeria plc, Wapic Insurance plc, Japaul Oil plc, FBN Holdings plc, and Zenith Bank plc.
Equity dealers exchanged 576,941,608 units of Trancorp plc shares valued at N3.026bn; 73,939,256 units of Wapic Insurance plc valued at N55.427m; 42,586,602 units of Japaul Oil plc valued at N29.769m; 41,595,306 units of FBN Holdings plc valued at N640.345m; and 28,893,903 units of Zenith Bank plc valued at N716.312m.
