Over 150 regulators, scientists, pharmaceutical leaders, and industry stakeholders gathered in Lagos on 27 August 2025 for the VWR Chromatography Experience Day, organised by LS Scientific in partnership with VWR, part of Avantor. The one-day event, held at the Lagos Marriott Hotel, focused on advancing the role of chromatography in Nigeria’s analytical and pharmaceutical industries.
The event, themed “Your Complete Chromatography Experience”, featured technical sessions, regulatory insights, and live demonstrations of chromatography systems. Participants were introduced to applications ranging from high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) in pharmaceutical testing to Air Sampling for cleanroom monitoring and Spectrophotometry in laboratory compliance. ACE columns and pharma-grade chemicals were also presented as part of Avantor’s integrated workflow approach.
Two directors from the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) shared perspectives on how analytical testing supports regulation and industry development. Pharm. Babatunde Yusuf, Director of Laboratory Services (Food), addressed “Supporting Nigeria’s Manufacturing Goals through Reliable Analytical Testing”, while Ms. Nkem Colette Ifudu, Director of Laboratory Services (Drugs), spoke on “Combating Counterfeit Medicines Using Advanced Analytical Techniques”. Their contributions underscored the connection between advanced laboratory systems, manufacturing standards, and public health.
Avantor’s specialists added further insights. Murad Al-Samneh, Chromatography Sales Specialist for the Middle East and Africa, and Victor Menezes, Chromatography Specialist, demonstrated practical applications of chromatography tools and explained how workflow optimisation can improve laboratory outcomes.
Reflecting on the impact of the seminar, Murewa Odunjo, managing director of LS Scientific, said: “Your Complete Chromatography Experience was not just an event but a statement of LS Scientific’s commitment to empowering laboratories in Africa with the tools and expertise needed for excellence. Through our partnership with Avantor, we are supporting Nigeria’s analytical industry to meet international standards and regulatory expectations.”
Murad Al-Samneh, Chromatography Sales Specialist for the Middle East and Africa described the programme as an opportunity to connect global expertise with local practitioners. He said: “The live demonstrations of chromatography systems and analytical tools sparked meaningful engagement and reaffirmed our joint mission with LS Scientific to advance scientific progress in the region.”
The day concluded with networking sessions where participants engaged directly with regulators, researchers, and solution providers. Discussions centred on strengthening Nigeria’s pharmaceutical sector through advanced testing, quality assurance, and alignment with global standards.
The Lagos event formed part of LS Scientific’s wider partnership with Avantor, aimed at building capacity in African laboratories through training, technical support, and access to reliable scientific tools.
